Blood & Honey is the recently-released second book in the NYT best-selling Serpent & Dove trilogy by Indie Author, Shelby Mahurin.
The book follows Lou, Reid, Coco, Ansel, Beau, and Madame Labelle and kicks off where the last book left off. The group must find a way to unite the Loup Garou (werewolves), and Dames Rouges (blood witches) to help them in the fight against Lou’s mother, Morgane while gaining other allies along the way. Meanwhile, Reid is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he is a witch, and Lou’s magic is leading her down a dark path; both of which are causing a strain on their relationship.
Yet again, this book was well written. Shelby has such a wonderful writing style which can almost be compared to that of Sarah J Maas’. Most of the characters had interesting depth and character development, and the new characters were definitely intriguing. The world-building was also just as beautifully written as the first book.
However, this novel was very slow. The first 200-300 pages seemed to drag. The next 200 did pick up a bit, and the last 50 sped into overdrive with a shocking end. Overall, Blood & Honey deserves a 4 & 1/2 stars as it wasn’t as good as Serpent & Dove, but it was still a great read.
