There’s something about a good horror movie that makes you want to know what happened behind the scenes. Was the set as creepy as it looks? What was going through the actors’ minds while filming some of the more intense moments? And when you spend weeks making a movie about a remote cabin in the woods… Do you ever start looking at cabins a little differently?

Those were just a few of the things on our minds when Nerd Alert News had the opportunity to sit down with Sawtooth Mountain writer and director Matt Kincses and one of the stars of the film,  Gabriel Carter.

The film has officially made its way into the world, premiering on Tubi on August 11, 2026, while also becoming available through VOD. After getting an early look at the film ourselves, we were excited to talk with the people behind it and get a little more insight into the journey from script to screen.

Sawtooth Mountain takes audiences into the wilderness for a character driven story that combines cryptid folklore with plenty of tension, uncertainty, and drama. While Bigfoot may be at the center of the film’s mythology, there is considerably more going on beneath the surface, and that was something we wanted to explore with Kincses and Carter.

For Kincses, the conversation offered a chance to talk about the creative journey behind the film and the challenge of putting a new spin on a legend audiences have seen countless times before. He also shared some insight into the world he created and the importance of making the setting feel like more than simply a backdrop for the story.

Carter, meanwhile, gave us a look at the experience from the actor’s side. As the film’s circumstances become increasingly difficult for its characters, his performance has to navigate some complicated emotional territory. Getting to hear what goes into those moments adds another layer to the experience of watching the finished film.

Most importantly, the conversation gave us a chance to hear the genuine enthusiasm behind the project. Independent films often come together through a tremendous amount of creativity, collaboration, and determination, and it’s always rewarding to hear from the people who poured that effort into bringing a story to audiences.

Whether you’re already a fan of cryptid horror or simply looking for something new to add to your horror watchlist, Sawtooth Mountain is now ready for you to discover. And if you’ve already watched it, our conversation with Kincses and Carter offers an opportunity to look at the film from a different perspective and hear some of the stories behind the screen.

Sawtooth Mountain is currently available to stream on Tubi and through VOD platforms.
