Denver area convention fans were dealt a big blow this week. One of the largest conventions in the country, Denver Pop Culture Con, has announced that their 2021 event has been canceled. May was to be their return with their usual A-list celebrities and activities, but unfortunately, the pandemic is going to be around for a while. There is so much uncertainty around large gatherings and an event such as this organization is used to hosting, will just not be possible. Social media lit up with disappointment over the announcement, although fans do understand.

This was just part of the announcement. As a result of losing both 2020 and 2021 conventions, they stated that they made “dramatic — and painful — budget decisions in order to continue our nonprofit’s obligation to promote opportunities for education and creative self-expression through pop culture.” Some staff has been eliminated and their focus has now shifted to the purpose behind DPCC’s fundraising, Pop Culture Classroom. This “education and community group uses comics, movies, fiction, tv, video games, and other pop culture to inspire learning, promote literacy, and champion inclusion and diversity.” The kids, teachers, and communities that this organization supports need a helping hand. For those who wish to give to keep Pop Culture Classroom running, visit their website to donate.
