Clank! Is a fantastic game! So why does it need an expansion? Well, it gives another map, more cards and some unique rules for underwater.

I’m not going to cover basic Clank! In this review, (see my original review of Clank! On my personal blog) but instead focus on the new rules and cards.

Sunken Treasure comes with a new 2-sided board featuring a sunken ship and underwater caverns in a new dungeon. A new market item called the SCUBA helmet allows players to freely explore sunken rooms without losing air. Without one, a player must be able to end their movement in a non-sunken room or lose one health point. That can add up quickly, so it’s best to get one before going swimming. Also, a SCUBA allows players to move through underwater rooms using only one movement point instead of two. Another reason to get one ASAP.

Sunken Treasure also introduces a new continuous enemy, the goldfish; who gives three gold when defeated but can only be fought underwater. There are some other monsters and treasure cards, (Saurian, Black Pearl) for example as well as some new devices. The pipe organ allows you to move the dragon one space up or down.

Speaking of the cards, two new ones come to mind, the flying carpet and the pickaxe. The flying carpet costs 6 skill, gives 2 movement points but does not have to stop in crystal caves. The pickaxe costs 4 skill and gives 2 gold every turn in addition to 2 swords. What underwater adventures would not be complete without mermaids! Sunken Treasure has them in addition to merlings.

In closing, Sunken Treasure is an expansion, so it is not necessary to fully enjoy Clank! For those who are looking for a little more, than it is one I think fits nicely with Clank!

Tom Vassel of the dice tower, has a nice overview of it, so you can better see what you are getting.
