Horror fans lined up to meet “Dawn of the Dead” star Ken Foree at StarFest Denver this past weekend Apr. 26-28, 2019. Nerd Alert News sat down with the actor, writer, producer who has been in 50 films including “Halloween”, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and Rob Zombie’s “The Devils Rejects” and “Lords of Salem.” See what Ken is up to when he’s not getting worn out by his almost 90-year-old mom.

Colleen Bement: I’ll bet your fans are having a great time meeting you.

Ken Foree: People are being very kind. They’re expressing the love and I’m giving as much back as I can.

CB: What do you think of StarFest? Is this your first time here?

KF: It’s my first time at StarFest but not my first time in Denver. I went to high school here in Denver.

CB: How cool. Which one?

KF: It’s a Catholic High School near the Manual area near Humbolt Street. I have fond memories of being here in Denver. I love Denver. Great city. It’s amazing to watch the snow come down to two feet of snow in the morning, and by noon, it’s nothing but sunshine and dry streets. Beautiful.

CB: StarFest is a family-run convention and it’s all about the friends and the connections. Does it feel like a different atmosphere?

KF: I said that yesterday to a few people. There’s a certain vibe here where everybody seems to be having a great time. I don’t see the competition or aggressiveness or people having the sour faces that you see at some conventions. Most conventions everyone’s having a good time, but this seems to have an aura of joy everywhere I looked, in every department in every place I looked. That’s a bit strange in for most conventions. You see it but you don’t really feel it when you look in every nook and cranny. Congratulations to all of you. You’ve done a wonderful job. It seems like it’s a big family reunion.

CB: Tell me what projects you have in the works.

KF: I have one, “John Henry” that I’m not sure when it’s coming out, but I shot it last year. I have a six-hour limited series that I’m hoping is going to get picked up. I just finished writing a suspenseful horror script that I’m contracted to do it, so hopefully, that will happen. There’s something for Australian TV on the 6th of next month and hopefully a film in July in New Orleans.

CB: Wow, you don’t stop.

KF: If you’ve got another 20 minutes I can tell you a lot of other things. I’ve got more on my plate than I have time for. Once you take something off, two more jump on! You know, my mother’s 89 and we’re having her 90th birthday on June 15th. A big gala affair, ballrooms, and I spent a month with my mother about two weeks ago teaching her yoga because of a sciatic nerve problem and at this point she’s got a private yoga teacher. I’d get up with her at 5:00 in the morning; every morning she woke me up saying come on, come on–let’s go downstairs and start our yoga. Now she’s is not in any pain, but she wore me out. My mom likes to go places. It’s dinner two or three times every week and food shopping at Kroger. She always has to pick up a little piece of something and she’s always saying it’s too high! We’re going over to there another store because it’s cheaper

CB: That’s adorable.

KF: I don’t know if it’s adorable. I felt like I’d been playing in a football game time after time of being with that woman. I love her, I love her!!
