Picture it. Dinosaurs in the jungles of Vietnam
Luke Sparke’s ‘Primitive War’ has officially started filming. Known for his works like “Occupation Rainfall” and “Bring Him To Me,” the Australian director is at the helm of this new venture that promises to be a blend of survival horror, war drama, and prehistoric adventure. Based on Ethan Pettus‘ cult-followed book, “Primitive War” thrusts audiences into the heart of the Vietnam War, where a squad of soldiers in 1968 stumbles upon a chilling revelation: dinosaurs roam the dense jungles. This unique premise sets the stage for a thrilling narrative that combines historical conflict with ancient creatures. Leading the charge in this film are acclaimed actors Ryan Kwanten, Tricia Helfer, and Jeremy Piven. Kwanten, known for his role in “True Blood,” brings his expertise to the forefront, alongside Helfer, famous for her portrayal of Number Six in “Battlestar Galactica,” and Piven, a Primetime Emmy Award and Golden Globe winner for his role in “Entourage.”
The story follows the journey of Vulture Squad, a recon unit known that is sent to an isolated jungle valley to uncover the fate of a missing Green Beret platoon. They soon discover they are not alone. The prehistoric sci-fi film features dinosaurs that are more scientifically and historically accurate, compared to other counterpart films. It also blends action with survival-horror and war themes.
Sparke commented during pre-production that he was captivated by the imagery surrounding Ethan’s book and the story it told. I’ve worked hard on capturing that essence but also the grittiness, horror aspects and military edge. My vision is to feel like the characters have walked out of the film ‘platoon’ and into the jaws of the greatest predators the planet has ever known.
Joining the stellar cast are a host of talented ensemble players, including The film also includes a slew of ensemble talent including Anthony Ingruber (Age of Adaline, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Aaron Glenane (Interceptor, Danger Close), Carlos Sanson Jr (Bump, Legacies), Ana Thu Nguyen (Mortal Kombat 2), Albert Mwangi (Tom Swift, Blueback), Adolphus Waylee (Nautilus), Richard Brancatisano (The Messinger, After the Verdict), Marcus Johnson (Talk to Me) and Jake Ryan (Savage, Underbelly).
“Primitive War” is being filmed on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, and will employ a majority local crew and cast topping over 200 jobs and countless services for the area.
