Originally from Seattle, Eva Ceja grew up in the musical theatre world, and studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London in the Foundation program, graduated from the Prestigious Second City Improv/writing Conservatory Program. She shared what it is like to be a Line Producer, and how the hard work is worth it. Just off running the upcoming film “4 Horsemen: Apocalypse,” she also produced films that starred Eric Roberts and Jeremy London. “iCarly” fans would have spotted her in a recent episode, and her filmography is exploding with projects.

She is Mexican and Native American and advocates for human rights. This was an amazing and enlightening interview. Enjoy!

Colleen Bement: Congrats on your new film “4 Horsemen: Apocalypse”! I am a sucker for any apocalyptic so let’s chat about the movie.

Eva Ceja: I had quite a bit of a challenge because I was the Line Producer for the movie, and I was actually one of the leads. I don’t know if you know what a Line Producer does…

CB: That was actually my next question.

EC: So basically, what I do is I work with places like Asylum, and I sign a PSA saying that they’re going to give us a certain amount of money, they want this movie made, and they say here’s the money. Here’s the script to go make the movie! I basically hire the crew, get the locations, do all of the accounting, do the paperwork, I hire the cast, I get the catering, everything. I basically create the movie as a Line Producer.

On top of that, I am one of the leads in it. I did possibly six times as much work as I normally do because I was also acting in it. That was a challenge in itself.

CB: It’s like it was your baby. You were in charge of so much!

EC: Yeah, exactly, so whenever I do these movies, and I’m line producing a movie right now, literally I put my name on it. It’s my film. Everything that I do and find, I want to make sure that I’m doing the best possible so that we can make the best movie with the money that we’re given.

EC: AND on top of that, I’m getting my Master’s Degree right now.

CB: What is your Master’s Degree going to be in?

EC: History. I’m constantly taking classes. I got into Harvard Business School, but it’s an online program, and so I got accepted to that too. I’m doing that as well. I love history.

CB: What type of history are you into?

EC: Civil War and I really enjoy Restoration, and then also in terms of the Civil Rights movement are my favorite as well. It’s interesting. We’re the only country in the entire world that had a war that basically dictated by the losers; the history of it, basically.

CB: Do you have other projects in the works that you are allowed to tell us about?

EC: I actually have quite a few. I did unit production management on a western that is coming out soon. I just finished up 2 movies: A Thor-inspired movie, it’s called “Thor: God of Thunder,” and there’s another one called “Alien Space Battle.” Those are both directed by Noah Luke. I booked a role in a BETPLUS movie called “Blossom” and actually they asked me to line produce that so I’m doing that as well. So line producing and acting again.

CB: Congratulations on all of that. I see that you had a spot on the new “iCarly.” What was that experience like and were you a fan of the original “iCarly?”

EC: So, I’d never seen “iCarly” and they had to tell me all about it. The cast and crew were so nice. They were amazing. I had a blast. The production was so on top of everything. It was like a well-oiled machine.

CB: Are you a big horror fan by chance? What are your favorite horror movies?

EC: I’m not a big fan of horror, but in terms of horror movies that I love, I would say the first horror movie that I ever saw was “Jacob’s Ladder.” It’s a 1980s movie about the guy who goes to Vietnam and he comes back with all these flashes of seeing the devil, and you find out he’s actually in limbo and he’s actually dying. It’s fantastically written. I would say the only other well-written horror movies that are really good are “Cabin in the Woods,” and “The Exorcism of Emily Rose.” Her face–they were going to CGI her face for a lot of that, but she was so good a manipulating her face that they didn’t have to.

CB: Tell your fans about your activism and what cause is important to you at the moment. It’s important to me so I wanted to ask you.

EC: I’m a big advocate for human rights, abortion rights is a big one for me. Also gay and lesbian rights as well as immigration reform. I am Hispanic as well as Native American so I am not only native to this country but I’m also an immigrant. For me, this country shouldn’t be just for people who are born here. it should be for people who are trying to seek refuge, people who are trying to make a better life, and I think the immigration laws that we have in America are just not acceptable. Even under Biden, they need to change already. It’s something that needs to change.

I’m also a big advocate for abortion laws and I think it’s ridiculous what they’re trying to do. When Roe vs Wade was created, it was before women were even able to have credit cards. Or have all of these other rights that they just got in the late 70s. You don’t think about that, but women just got full legal rights to have credit, own things, and don’t have to ask their husbands for permission in the late 70s. Roe vs Wade was made before we were our own individual person and have an economy ourselves. Trying to roll back and say you don’t have the right to say whether or not to have an abortion is ridiculous.

Thank you, Eva!
