In 2020 Legendary Pictures will bring us the ultimate title fight, the main event, “Godzilla vs Kong,” as two top titans come together to slug it out. In 2014 Legendary released Godzilla, a reimagining of the Toho Kaiju, it took the world by storm. With a great release on their hands they weren’t stopping there, and in 2017 released Kong on Skull Island. Changing up the story of King Kong, turning it into a period piece set in the 70s and keeping the movie entirely on Skull Island. Kong beat his chest all the way to the bank as the movie did prove to be a success. Not long after we were treated to a battle Royale of “Titanic” proportions with 2019’s entry “Godzilla King of the Monsters.” The movie somewhat underperformed expectations but the stage is now set. The arena is will soon be ready as Kong and Godzilla will be stepping into their respective corners.

A movie teaser was just released and though only a few seconds long it answered one giant question, “how does the size difference get worked out?” During the events of Kong Skull Island, Kong stood at roughly 104 feet while Godzilla at the end of “King of the Monsters” stood at roughly 393 feet. Clearly this difference in size would pose a bit of a problem when proposing a fight between the two. The teaser laid those worries to rest. In the footage we see both Kong and Godzilla standing eye to eye and about to trade blows atop of what looks to be an aircraft carrier possibly. While we don’t see a punch land it was enough to illustrate the immensity of the brawl.

We know the main event will be the two titled Kaiju but the good folks at Legendary aren’t showing their hand yet. One can assume there will be an antagonist to contend with and right now rumors are swirling that it may be Destroyah, one of Godzilla’s most notorious foes from the mid-’90s. Born from the use of an oxygen destroyer bomb, a microscopic colony of crustaceans mutated to become one of Godzilla’s most memorable rivals. In “Godzilla King of the Monsters,” an Oxygen Destroyer was incorporated into the movie as the military used it as a last-ditch attempt by the military.

With a new release date of November 2020, we will just have to wait and see.
