Make sure that Hayride to Hell” is on your Halloween watch list.

One of the film’s stars, Graham Wolfe, was an integral part of bringing the movie to life. Wolfe not only shared the set with horror icons Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder, he also composed the score. This popular actor is known for his diverse talents and abilities which have garnered him an ever-growing body of work in both Television and Film. Fans have seen him in “We Own This City”, “The Punisher” and Richard Linklater’s “Last Flag Flying”. His characters are rich and interesting because of his study of the human condition to further the depth and understanding of the characters he creates and plays. He also happens to be a big fan of Halloween going back to his first wolfman costume as a kid. This latest horror movie was inspired by a real haunted hayride Farmer, Bob Lange used to have on his pumpkin farm back in the 80s and 90s. He aimed for larger-than-life characters and outrageous settings. The entire film was shot on the farm they call home, which has been in Bob’s family since 1896! “Hayride to Hell” is destined to become a cult-horror classic for generations to come.  Read about the making of “Hayride to Hell” and what makes it so special.

Q: Congrats on your new film “Hayride to Hell.” We’re filled with Halloween spirit right now and this is a must-see. Take us back to the film’s inception. It’s about a good-hearted farmer turned sinister. Who created it and what was the inspiration behind it?

Halloween has been a favorite holiday of mine since my first Wolfman outfit as a little kid, so being able to continue the “scares” as an adult is so much fun!  “Hayride to Hell” is the brainchild of Kristina Chadwick and Robert Lange.  Their real-life passion for saving family farms inspired their pop culture artistry as writers and producers to take on the horror film industry and create an exciting, intense, and at times funny film.  Their hopes are that the film will become an instant horror classic and proceeds will help to maintain their farm long into the future.

Q: How did iconic horror stars Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder come together for this project?

In the case of “It’s a small world”, I believe Bob and Dan Lantz (our fantastic director) had a mutual friend who was able to complete the circle of casting and with horror legends like that, I knew we were assured some amazing performances.  As it were, Bill & Kane are long-time friends so not only were there some great moments on screen but off as well.

Q: You composed the film’s score. You’re incredibly multi-talented! Can you give us some background on its composition?

Thank you kindly!  Dan Lantz was well aware of my musical side, and while the film was in post-production, my name came up as one of several composer options.  Being as though I was so close to the film and already understood the tone, I quickly composed some demo pieces that I felt were what they were looking for.  The desire was for a full orchestral mix, so I knew it would be a big job, but I loved every minute of it.  I may be biased but I really think the score helps to elevate the film even higher.  You’ll have to let me know your thoughts!

Q: Do you happen to have any indie projects in the works that you’re allowed to tell us about? I understand that due to the strike, there may not be much you can share.

Yeah, this is a tough time for our industry.  I think all I can really say is that I did complete work on two films just before the strike which will still hopefully be released sometime in 2024.  I’m sure at some point additional info will be found on my socials etc.  Having said that, “Hayride to Hell” is in quite unique territory as Kristina and Bob have managed an independent limited nationwide release in theaters starting October 20th!

Q: I highly recommend watching “Alpha Rift.” Can you share a bit about the creation of that movie?

Absolutely! And Nerd Alert News was right there on the ground floor for that film as well.  “Alpha Rift” was where I first met and worked with Dan Lantz.  In an industry where there is so much “re-make” and “based on” material, Dan truly came up with something original.  He held that concept close to the vest and really put his all into it and what an absolutely great ride it is.  Lots of action and excitement, Knights, Demons, swords, magic helmets what else can I say…other than, I think that cat has a few more lives to live.  I wouldn’t be surprised if “Alpha Rift” is just the beginning.  Not to mention, it was so much fun to make!

Q: This question is out of my own curiosity. You had a brief spot on “Mr. Robot” and I think that was one of the most brilliant shows. Would you happen to have a story from the set?

Mr. Robot, what a show!  Unfortunately “brief spot” is being generous.  Some projects are in and out, some you film a lot and not much of that material is used and sometimes entire story lines are cut out after being filmed.  I would say that my fondest memory of working on that show was sharing some time, although briefly, on and off screen with BD Wong a true professional and kind person.

Q: Last question, would you happen to have some advice or inspiration for future filmmakers? It’s such a tough career and many give up.

Tough is an understatement! But with anything that you are truly passionate about, don’t quit!  Of course, there has to be some balance between big goals and the realities involved in what it may take to achieve them.  Oftentimes I find that with artistic-minded people, there is so much absolute talent that it outweighs the ability to comprehend the business side of art.  I myself have struggled with that.  So if you find it difficult to make connections or speak on behalf of yourself, put a little more effort into that not-so-fun part of the industry.  If you’re capable of making the greatest film ever, how will anyone know if they don’t know that you exist?  So be realistic but also, to quote the great Arnold Schwarzenegger “Don’t listen to the naysayers”.  Go out there, get your feet wet, and learn from your experiences.  You likely won’t hit a home run on the first pitch at your first at bat, but keep swinging.

Once you watch “Hayride to Hell’s trailer, you will be hooked!
