Amazon will be airing an 8 part animated series based on the comic Co-created by Robert Kirkman (who is also the creator of the “Walking Dead”), called “Invincible.” For those of you unfamiliar with the book let’s set the stage, shall we?

“Invincible” tells the sorry of Mark Grayson the teenage son of the world’s most powerful superhero, Omni-Man. The story goes through his discovering of his powers, learning to control them, and will branch out from there as he finds himself in a whole new world of the super-powered. And through all of this Invincible gets himself in super-powered beatdowns the likes of which evoke “Dragonball Z” level collateral damage. It’s a book that does not pull any punches and while we are still on that topic the depiction of the violence is visceral, and brutal. There are some awful things that happen in Mark’s world throughout this tale and with Robert Kirkman at the helm, it’s no surprise that the scenes can be hard to take in at times. Still, the story is strong and the character developments take center stage.

Mark has to come to grips with a terrible revelation that has drastic implications of all that he believes in this world. Invincible is one of those projects that would have a difficult time in the live-action medium due to the epic scale of it but is just perfect for animation.

To bring these characters to life an all-star cast has been assembled; Mahershala Ali, Seth Rogan, Mark Hamill, Zachary Quinto, Sandra Oh, and Steven Yeun as Invincible.

The show will remain quite true to the source material and that will include those brutal fight scenes. Speaking during a virtual event at the New York Comic-Con Kirkman had this to say “If you’ve been reading the comic book series, you’re going to get everything you’ve been expecting or wanting,” he continues “But we’re changing some characters, we’re expanding some roles, we’re putting a little bit of spice in there to keep you guys guessing.”

The good folks at Amazon are pretty happy with the reception they’ve received with The Boys and now aim to keep that ball rolling with “Invincible.”

As of right now, the first three hour-long episodes of “Invincible” will stream on Amazon Prime Video on March 26. The remaining five episodes will release Fridays weekly, with the season finale arriving on April 30th.
