Can’t get enough of hilarious douchebag superheroes?

After finishing off Prime Video’s “The Boys,” Daniel Crosier’s film “Isolation Man” is the perfect follow-up. A continuation of his 2009 comic book ‘The Exquisite Vanishteer,’ the story surrounds a horrible human being that is a superhero in name only. The book sets up the events leading to how ‘The Vanishteer’ accidentally disappears the entire human population of the western hemisphere. Everyone is gone! It is an absurdist mockumentary and it was shot for only $400.00. Directed by Dane Bernhardt and Daniel Crosier, it was picked up for distribution by Troma (The Toxic Avenger, Poultreygeiest, Cannibal the Musical stable of films distributor), specifically Troma Now streaming.
It was a blast. It was crazy guerilla filmmaking. We were shooting in public spaces and folks had a blast! I had a good time. Denver’s not thought of as a filmmaking town, back in 2011, but the public that ran into us were inviting, and today, with Sundance coming to Boulder in January 2027 we’re seeing more interest in making art through film. Sometimes that art is just the record of you and your friends having a good time and trying to make each other laugh. Also, how do you make people laugh around such horrifying things like a mass population vanishing in a ridiculous way and scale. I also had to portray the Vanishteer as vapid, toxic, narcissistic – basically a Trump character before he was in politics – the shallowness of depth is on full display, said Crosier.

When asked what he would like audiences to take away from his movie, Crosier said that it was weird how overtime works of fiction, and more so in absurdist pieces reflect the times we live in. It is not hard to fathom that the powers that be can enact such a devastating event, granted without superhuman powers. We do have a world leader that alleged to shit himself and posted that a whole society will no longer exist a few months ago. This film touches on those themes, and it came out in 2016. Yikes. Regardless, I still watch this film on Troma Now from time to time and get a chuckle from the film, and what we were able to pull off with my friends, He added.
Chances are, you know of Daniel Crosier. A graduate of RMCAD 2000 with a BFA in sculpting, his background includes gallery & installation art, producing OFM: OdAm fEI mUd, murals, comic book writing and illustration under Four Color Cake kids comics. He’s also a filmmaker and produces live events like DiNK and the popular Colorado Festival of Horror.
