This Nerd Alert News reporter spent a sweet Sunday at Denver’s annual MileHiCon. The event took place Oct. 18-20, 2019. How perfect was it that the date was right before Halloween! The geek-filled Sunday officially opened with a midnight showing of none other than the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” and was followed by a day filled with activities for all ages. Paper Rockets was a highlight of the day for the “younglings”!

This long-standing and popular convention had an art show and a vendor’s room because we all know that we nerds can never own enough collectibles. Attendees strolled through in cosplay or jeans with smiles on their faces. There was board gaming galore, author and artist tables, and fun and informative panels such as Pen Names versus Real Names, Gaming as a Way of Exploring Identity, Wizard’s Tic Tac Toe, the annual Art Auction, and even a Klingon house was there for a meeting!

One of the panel rooms was filled up with “PG-13 Monsters: Not So Scary.” Con-goers sat in on a lively discussion led by Authors such as Laurence MacNaughton, Fred Poutre, Travis Heermann, Jenna Lincoln, and Marie DesJardin about what actually makes monsters PG-13. Was it the degree of violence or the amount of entrails? Were there human or robot casualties?

The Sith Dynasty was on hand to share their incredible “Star Wars” costumes and stories. This Lucas Film approved costuming chapter does everything from charities to conventions. They will be found at a Denver showing of the anticipated “The Rise of Skywalker.”

MileHiCon is already planning for next year so keep posted on their mailing list.
