A favorite convention of Nerd Alert News, WhimsyCon is back to bring fans 3 days of joy.

Denver’s highly anticipated Steampunk and Costuming Convention returns this Mar. 31 – Apr. 2, 2023. It’s a Maker’s paradise! Year after year, creativity takes over as fans enjoy three days of gorgeous cosplay, fun and informative panels, shopping in the vendor room, and meeting authors and artists. The venue is the Delta by Marriott in Northglenn and this hotel looks shiny and new. For those who have yet to be a part of WhimsyCon, you’re in for a cosplay treat! This event attracts some of the finest makers and cosplay around.

Meet this year’s Guests of Honor:

Clara/Clae Lu (Performer Guest of Honor)

Clara/Clae Lu  they/them, is a queer, second generation Han Chinese American from Queens, NY (unceded territory of the Lenni-Lenape). They identify as an artist, designer, cultural worker, and Chinese zither (Guzheng)  musician. Their work explores the power of arts in community to create spaces for conversation, reflection, and action. They have performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art; MoMA PS1; Elsewhere; Brooklyn Museum; Movement Research; and Abrons Art Center. They are currently a resident at The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) as a recipient of The New York Community Trust’s Edward and Sally Van Lier Fund.

Ken Liu (Author Guest of Honor)

A winner of the Nebula, Hugo, and World Fantasy awards, Ken Liu is the author of the Dandelion Dynasty, a silkpunk epic fantasy series (starting with The Grace of Kings), as well as The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories and The Hidden Girl and Other Stories. Ken’s world of the Dandelion Dynasty and his creation of the silkpunk setting is what has inspired our 2023 Theme: Weaving Grand Tales of Technology and Magic.

Artist, Author, and Vendor Spotlight:

There will be creativity and talent abound at WhimsyCon, and here are just a few that attendees can get excited for.

2 Wyrd Sisters was born at the very first AnomalyCon, out of a need for lip moisturization. We started with absinthe and chai lip balms the first year, and have expanded our offerings to include bath salts, salt & coffee body scrubs, hand sanitizer (essential during this pandemic), solid lotion bars, our infamous Goat Potion (a luxurious goat milk based lotion that immediately sinks into your skin without leaving that icky residue or feeling), our newest offering of solid lotion pushpops, and our essential lip balms.

Ashelon Publishing meshes steampunk and fantasy to create works of art and stories that are unique and culturally diverse. Award-winning artist Chaz Kemp creates beautiful steam-nouveau art that can be seen in prints, on book covers, on gaming tools and in a 52-card oracle deck. Award-winning author Carolyn Kay writes steampunk/fantasy stories within the world of Ashelon, bringing the world, and Chaz’s art to life.

NaN’s personal favorite, Dryad Tea! Hand blended loose leaf teas inspired by music, mythology, literature, general gallery and ttrpg. We are your one-stop tea shop, just add hot water.

Semper Fi Design offers unique designs in handcrafted jewelry, specializing in bead weaving, bead embroidery, and wirework/wire-wrapped gemstones. We have necklaces, pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings, and gloves/gauntlets. Many of our designs feature sci-fi/fantasy and cosplay themes.

Don’t you just want to cuddle one of these? SomaR Studios creates handmade items for comfort, practicality, and dopamine, allowing you to express your unique self in your unique way. Plushies, hand warmers, haori hoodies, scarves and more!
