Netflix has announced the anime adaption of the “Kakegurui Twin” manga series by Homura Kawamoto and art by Kei Saiki. This new story will serve as a prequel and spin-off to Kakegurui and will star Mary Satome as the main character.
“Kakegurui Twin” will finally be getting an anime adaptation. MAPPA Studios, the studio that produced the main series is back to animate the prequel! MAPPA Studios is known for its projects such as “Yuri On Ice,” “Jujutsu Kaisen,” “AOT the Final Season,” and the upcoming series “Chainsaw Man.”

This series focuses on the gambling feats of Mary Saotome one year before Yumeko Jabami transferred to her school. The story begins with Mary Saotome, a normal girl, entering the academy.
“Kakegurui Twin” will give fans a chance to learn more about Mary’s backstory and how rose through the ranks at the elite Hyakkou Academy. The rules at Hyakkou Academy are simple: winners are rewarded with prestige, money and other benefits, while losers are reduced to mere “house pets” forced to complete any demeaning demands their classmates make or even be sold off at the discretion of the academy.
When we first meet Mary she is incredibly sadistic and will do anything to climb the social ladder in the school. Of course, this all changes after she encounters Yumiko Jabami and ends up losing to her. After experiencing the cruel life as a “house pet” and being sold off in marriage by the council, Mary becomes desperate to regain her status. Now teaming up with Yumeko and Ryota the three are on a mission to tear down the status quo and destroy the council.
In “Kakegurui Twin,” Mary will have to learn to navigate the dangerous and high-stakes world of gambling but this time she’ll be accompanied by new faces. Such as Tsuzura Hanatemari who becomes one of her best friends.
With new characters and unknown storylines (for anime only’s) being explored “Kakegurui Twin” is sure to be just as wild and crazy as the original. The series will premiere on Netflix in August 2022. Both the original anime and all the live-action adaptations are also available to stream on Netflix.
