Heroes vs X-Men Resistance

Recently I reviewed the big box game X-Men Resistance by CMON for Marvel Zombies.  Heroes Resistance, is by Spin Master and CMON, but is only around $40 while X-Men is about $100.  I decided to write up a quick comparison of the two games, so those who may be interested in Zombicide can enter the game for a lower price point.

Heroes Resistance is not an expansion, it is a full Zombicide game. It plays exactly the same as X-Men Resistance, with the same rules and mechanics.  You can see my review of X-Men Resistance for a full overview of the mechanics and rules summary, as this is only a comparison of the two games.  They both have 6 heroes to select from; instead of the X-Men there are Avengers  (Spiderman, Winter Soldier, Wasp, The Hulk, Vision, and Black Panther).  There are also 4 Avenger Zombie Heroes (Scarlet Witch, Captain America, Iron Man and Doctor Strange.)

In addition, there are the three standard types of zombies (walkers, brutes, and runners) to contend with as well.  Heroes Resistance uses  cardboard standees for your basic zombie types and bystanders instead of miniatures. This is one of the reasons the game costs less.  You also get clips to slide on the character sheets instead of the dashboards, and a wheel tracker to measure experience.  It has all of the power trait, bystander, spawn cards, and map tiles needed to play the included missions; no other games are needed to play this version.

This is a great set for a first timer casual gamer who may want to try out the system without a huge investment.  I find the cardboard standees work just as well, but I do miss the dashboards found in the bigger versions.  The clips are functional and do work well without damaging the character card.

I added this set to expand my heroes and zombie heroes collection so it can be a good addition for that reason as well.  The box is much smaller, making this version very compact. Marvel Zombies is not directly compatible with the standard Zombicide second edition; it has its own system though several things are shared between all of the Zombicide games.  It is more similar to DCeased than 2nd edition, and those heroes can be mixed in between the games.

In summary, this version may be a good starting point or way to expand your Zombicide and one that I recommend for both new and old gamers alike.

Until next time, keep moving those meeples and happy gaming!
