Pinocchio and a troll welcome nerds to December as part two of the holiday season begins. Netflix is streaming some nerdy goodness with a giant beast from Norway, an epidemic of brain-destroying madness, and one of our favorites, Ewan McGregor, is playing a cricket! This month also brings us season two of the popular “Alice in Borderland,” and the highly anticipated “Dragon Age: Absolution.” Along with the re-watch of the traditional holiday movies, why not add some monsters to the mix? Check out what Nerd Alert News recommends for December.

All one needs to hear is the name Guillermo del Toro and the film becomes a must see. Add Ewan McGregor to the mix and  This Academy Award-winning director teamed up with stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson to re-make the classic Carlo Collodi story of the wooden boy. Pinocchio finds himself on an enchanted adventure that transcends worlds and shows us the life-giving power of love. “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” will be streaming on Netflix and in select theaters Nov. 9th.

Hot Skull

Another epidemic? Yikes! Netflix presents the eight-episode mini-series that is based on the novel of the same name by Afşin Kum , “Hot Skull” brings us into a world that has shaken by an epidemic of madness that spreads through language and speech.  There is a reclusive linguist that is the only person not affected by this disease. He is hunted by the ruthless Anti-Epidemic Institution, Murat is forced to leave the safe zone and flee within the flames and ruins of the streets of Istanbul, where he searches for the secret of his “hot skull” – a lasting mark of the disease.

Dragon Age: Absolution

This is Miriam’s Story…When a heist against the most powerful man in Tevinter goes south, an elven mercenary named Miriam (Kimberly Brooks) is forced into a desperate fight for survival. Now, to save herself and her friends, Miriam will have to confront the tragic past she’s spent a lifetime trying to escape.

This six episode series features an ensemble of new characters inspired by Dragon Age lore, including elves, mages, knights, Qunari, Red Templars, demons and other special surprises. The voice cast includes stars like Kimberly Brooks and Phil LaMarr. This is releasing on Netflix Dec. 9th.

Alice in Borderland

Season two of “Alice in Borderland” arrives just in time to solve the mystery of the “Borderland” and return to Arisu’s original world. He and his comrades must take on even more difficult and dangerous games. The series is based on a survival and thriller manga, “Alice in Borderland.”

For those not familiar with season one: Arisu—a listless, jobless and video-game-obsessed young man—suddenly finds himself in a strange, emptied-out version of Tokyo in which he and his friends must compete in dangerous games in order to survive. In this strange world, Arisu meets Usagi, a young woman who’s navigating the games alone. Together, they set out to unravel one mystery after another as they risk their lives and confront what it means to live.

“Alice in Borderland” fans will have to wait until Dec. 2nd.

So, nerds. What are you most excited to watch?
