Denver area Myths and Legends Convention just added even more shiny guests to their program. Martial arts consultants for ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Manuel Rodriguez and Sifu Kisu have been announced. They will be doing two interactive sessions for the fans. Be sure to get there on Friday for their session at 5 p.m. called Avatar: The Last Airbender Interactive Session with Experts. Saturday at 5 p.m. will be the next session called Avatar: The Last Airbender Performance and Teaching. MAL Con is bringing out some excellent guests this year with the Guest of Honor being none other than ‘Dresden Files’ author Jim Butcher. Also known for ‘Cinder Spires’ and the ‘Codex Alera’ series, he is someone not too be missed. Colorado sci-fi fans have a lot to look forward to this weekend Aug 12-14, 2016 at the Ramada Plaza Denver North.

Clear that schedule as these guys will be entertaining. Manuel Rodriguez is also know as Sifu Manny and happens to be one of the world’s only masters of the rare martial arts form known as Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis. The moves of Toph Beifong were based on the moves of Sifu Manny’s Chu Gar form. Sifu Kisu was the fighting instructor and consultant for the Avatar: The Last Airbender. He used his extensive knowledge and experience in various forms of martial arts to bring authenticity and real-world actions to the various bending styles used by the characters and nations in the show.

For anyone new to MAL Con, it is a shindig that is all about the favorites. This annual convention focuses on what so many sci-fi fans love the most: ‘Firefly’, ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Supernatural’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and this year ‘Dresden Files’. An event for all ages, there will be plenty of activities like tea dueling, dancing, super fun panels and programs, make-and-takes, and an irresistible vendor room. The always popular art show will have plenty of unique hand-made items. Did someone say cosplay? Yes of COURSE the costumes will be out in full force. The cosplay alone is worth a look with the possibilities of doctors and Captain Jacks, layer cake dresses, companions, wizards, and maybe a Targaryen or a Lannister. It is time to break out those sewing needles and glue, their “Jayne hats,” fezzes, and wands ready because MAL Con is less than two months away.
The schedule is out and there is so much to do. Grab those tickets. Adult weekend passes are available for the perfect price of $35 and rates go up on July 1st. For those who pre-register before August 1, 2016, they will receive the full-color commemorative badge to collect. Child weekend pre-registration tickets (age 7-12 and requires adult attendee accompaniment) are just $17.50 and will also receive the commemorative badge. Weekend and day passes will also be available at the door.
