(William Shatner credit to Blue Origin)
Trekkies, this article is for you!
Of course, we must start out by talking about William Shatner’s Blue Origin’s space flight last Wednesday, Oct. 13th. Fans across the world wished “The Shat” good luck and God’s speed as he hopped aboard Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket went where he certainly had not been before. The 90-year-old set a record for being the oldest person to go into space by climbing 65.8 miles up into actual outer space! He was so moved by the beauty and the adventure that he was brought to tears while telling Bezos all about his journey just after landing. Shatner expressed how the moment was so moving that he hoped that he never recovered from the experience.
It’s one thing to say, oh, the sky, and (it’s) fragile, it’s all true. But what … is unknown until you do it, is there’s this pure, soft blue. Look at the beauty of that color! And it’s so thin, and you’re through it in an instant. He also said that the experience showed him how vulnerable the world is and affirmed the need to protect it. Yes, we do, Captain Kirk. He has seen first-hand how thin our planet’s atmosphere is. Our planet is so fragile and it was good to hear Our Captain talk about it. Denver area fans will get the chance to hear Shatner’s stories live and in person at Fan Expo Denver on Oct. 29-31, 2021.
Now let’s continue trekking through this spot with a reveal of the “Star Trek: Discovery” trailer for season 4. The series is enjoying some well-deserved success with Sonequa Martin-Green at the helm. Time has sure flown by as we are now in its 4th season, and this year audiences will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery facing a threat unlike any they’ve ever encountered. With Federation and non-Federation worlds alike feeling the impact, they must confront the unknown and work together to ensure a hopeful future for all. Season four of “Star Trek: Discovery” will premiere on Thursday, Nov. 18, exclusively for Paramount+ subscribers.
Ready for some much-needed humor during these crazy times? “Star Trek: Lower Decks” delivers just that. Developed by Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan of “Rick and Morty” fame, season two of “Lower Decks” is proving to be bigger, funnier and Star Trekkier than ever before. Fans can expect strange new (and familiar) aliens to challenge the crews of the U.S.S. Cerritos and the U.S.S. Titan. For Mariner, Tendi, Rutherford, and Boimler, the animated adventure is just beginning.
More “Star Trek” you say? Our pleasure! What have you heard about the newest Trek chapter, “Star Trek Prodigy?” A teaser trailer was recently posted and it looks like a fun way to turn young audiences into Trekkies. The animated Nickelodeon series was developed by Emmy® Award-winners Kevin and Dan Hageman of “Trollhunters” and it is the first Star Trek series aimed at a younger audience. It will follow a motley crew of young aliens who must figure out how to work together while navigating a greater galaxy, in search of a better future. These six young outcasts know nothing about the ship they have commandeered – a first in the history of the “Star Trek” franchise – but over the course of their adventures together, they will each be introduced to Starfleet and the ideals it represents.
