Is the Seine RiverSeine RiverSeine River safe for Olympians to swim this summer? Forget about E. coli. How about a giant shark swimming in the river 24 hours before the competition is set to start? Coming this June, Netflix is releasing the film “Under Paris” and from the trailer, it looks to be a fun and twisted way to prep for the 2024 Summer Olympics. Picture athletes from around the world kicking and splashing on the surface, and what would a hungry shark see? Dinner, of course!
This French sci-fi monster flick takes place while Paris is hosting the World Triathlon Championships on the Seine for the first time. Sophia, a brilliant scientist, learns from Mika, a young environmental activist, that a large shark is swimming deep in the river. To avoid a bloodbath at the heart of the city, they have no choice but to join forces with Adil, the Seine river police commander. It’s directed by Xavier Gens (Gangs of London and Mayhem), and stars Academy Award nominee Bérénice Bejo, Nassim Lyes, and Léa Léviant.
Ironically the Seine River has been in the news lately about contamination of high levels of bacteria, including E. coli, that could threaten the safety of athletes participating in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics. Just imagine having to deal with a monster on top of the bacteria. Actually, no need to imagine. Just watch “Under Paris” starting June 5th on Netflix.
