If you loved Season 1, you’re absolutely going to go crazy over Season 2!

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” fans have a treat in-store. Deadline just held a screening yesterday, June 9, 2022, that was followed by a fascinating Q&A with some of the main cast and showrunners. While up in Toronto shooting season 2, The cast and crew are up in Toronto shooting season 2 and they took time out to chat about their experiences filming the series as well as what “Star Trek” meant to them. Besides giving a well-deserved backstory to Capt. Christopher Pike, it gives insight into younger versions of Spock and Uhura. It is interesting to get to know the USS Enterprise before the days of Captain Kirk.

When the scripts come out, the cast was always amazed. Anson Mount talked about the trust he has in the writers and he even commented that he has gotten chills when reading the scripts. He talked about a kismet between a writer and an actor and said that “when either the actor hears exactly what was in your hear when you wrote it, or, you can hear the writer hearing your voice as they write it. We got to that place really early on with the show. I think because I had that experience with “Discovery.”

Sporting a Star Trek insignia necklace co-star Celia Rose Gooding gushed about working on the project expressing her gratitude for being given the incredible opportunity to take on the groundbreaking role of Nyota Uhura. When referring to season 2 she added that “the cast has been speaking together, and we talk about how Season 1 was definitely a meal, but we feel like we have so much more this season.” Rose Gooding added of the upcoming season currently in production in Toronto. “So it is everything times itself.”

Christina Chong had the chance to introduce the new character of security chief La’an Noonien-Singh. When it came to season 2 she said that “if you enjoyed Season 1, Season 2 takes it to a whole other level. I mean, we’re getting scripts in and completely in awe of everything Henry and Akiva have created. If you loved Season 1, you’re absolutely going to go crazy over Season 2!”

Ethan Peck who brings this version of Spock to life answered where he thought his Spock was going to end up after dropping into a couple of Discovery episodes? He answered “no, I did not. I was hoping that there would be something beyond Discovery for my version of Spock, and this far exceeded any expectations that I had.” When asked what he felt he was creating that was original, Peck responded “I would say that we’re really exploring his humanity in a way that has not been explored before. I think one of the vehicles for that is the humor and comedy elements of Spock.”

Stay tuned to Paramount+ for the season 1 finale on July 7th, and before then there are four more episodes to enjoy. Season 2 is set to premiere in the first half of 2023.
