Conventions have been in full swing this year and it feels so good. Friends getting together to share experiences, gaming, cosplay, and panels. It has been amazing getting to meet celebrities, artists, and authors. 2023 so far has been an amazing year for pop culture conventions, and now the second half of the year always brings some of our favorite conventions. Here’s a list of what to look forward to. The actors and writers strike, which we fully support here at Nerd Alert News, thankfully hasn’t posed too many complications for events.

Tacticon

DATE: Aug. 24-27, 2023

WHERE: Hyatt Regency Aurora-Denver Conference Center

The dice at hot and the games are plenty are Tacticon in Denver. Why not immerse yourself in a long weekend of fun with your fellow gamers. Tacticon has been around for 32 years and bringing fans superior gaming fun. Come by to play tabletop games including board games, card games, and role playing games. There will be games some fans of heard of, while others might be brand new! Gamer Girl Games brings us premier gaming conventions such as Tacticon and Genghis Con, and stay tuned for their newest gaming event called the 5e Compatible gaming supplement Questionable Quests.

 

Colorado Springs Comic Con

DATES: Aug. 25-27, 2023

PLACE: Broadmoor World Arena

Fans will get the chance to revel in pop culture again this August at the bottom of the beautiful Pikes Peak. Colorado Springs Comic Con is back and can boast stellar guests like William Shatner, Bruce Campbell, Cary Elwes, Cassandra Peterson, John DiMaggio, Billy West, Jim Cummings, and Dante Basco. Click here to see the full lineup. The Broadmoor World Arena is The Springs’ premiere sports and entertainment venue in the area. It is more than large enough to offer space for the artists, vendors, concessions, celebrity photo ops and autographs, and room to roam. Cosplayers will be out in force. Eager fans will be grabbing photo ops and autographs. And don’t forget about the after parties.

 

Colorado Festival of Horror: Slasher Hotel

DATES: Sep. 15-17, 2023

PLACE:  Denver Marriott South at Park Meadows

If you’re a Colorado horror fan, you most likely know about the Colorado Festival of Horror, fondly referred to as COFOH. Like a zombie virus, the excitement has spread and so has the guest list. This year the creative team welcomes Allen Danziger, John Dugan, Kirk R. Thatcher, Caroline Williams, Monique Dupree, Michelle Bauer, Jeffrey Reddick, Debbie Rochon, and no doubt more. We here at Nerd Alert News are looking forward to the third Drawn in Blood, the tattoo competition, the cosplay, the panels, and so much more. The Slasher Hotel theme will be evident as COFOH decks out the hotel with monsters and creepiness at every turn.

 

Mile Hi Con

DATES: Oct. 27-29, 2023

PLACE:  Denver Marriott Tech Center

One of Colorado’s longest-running conventions will be returning with an in-person event the first weekend of October 2021. The guests. The panels. The cosplay, and of course the friends. Hosting the fun will again be the Denver Marriott Tech Center, which has been a favorite location for many pop culture conventions. Already the organizers have confirmed Guests of Honor: Artist- Peri Charlifu, Authors- Drew Hayes and Mary Robinette Kowal, Virtual-Tamora Pierce, and the Toastmaster will be Sumiko Saulson.

 

Rocky Mountain Con

DATES:  Nov. 11-12, 2023

PLACE: Embassy Suites, Denver Central Park

Collectors, gamers, Comic book fans, Cosplayers, anime enthusiasts, and more, Rocky Mountain Con is back for its 10th year. The tickets are only $10 a day, and a portion of the proceeds will go to charity. This year they’re proud to have Venom artist Sam De La Rosa as their special guest. Other guest artists include Bryan Pederson, Mike Baron, and Ron Fortier. It’s more of a laid-back atmosphere and fun for the whole family. A portion of their proceeds go to a local charity, so be sure to come and spend some time with your fellow nerds.

There is a brand new convention this Thanksgiving weekend. GalactiCon! This Denver-area experience will be filled with celebrity guests from our favorite shows and movies, a dealers room full of the stuff we love, panels, comics artists and authors, literary discussions, kids activities, Cosplay, Fantasy, video gaming, board gaming, and more. Thanksgiving Weekend? No problem! This event will create the ideal opportunity to either spend time with the whole family or enjoy a fun escape that holiday weekend. As an added bonus, this convention aligns with the holiday season, allowing us to make the most of our time by combining our convention experience with Black Friday and Small Business Saturday shopping. Who is coming? So far, Todd Stashwick, Denise Crosby, Omid Abtahi, and Rick Worthy.
