David Hadyn-Jones is a name very familiar to the Supernatural family. Jones has been a fan favorite villain in seasons 12 and 13 of the CW hit series. He has been playing Ketch, a loveable yet hated killer. The Saskatchewan born actor has been acting for 20 plus years and has definitely gained a growing following in the past two. While working on Supernatural he has been exposed to the “Supernatural Family”; what the fandom calls themselves, and he has seen all that this fandom can accomplish when they ban together. He jumped on the bandwagon of raising money for charity this past year.

As some of you may know, the Supernatural family is full of some very musically inclined people, and David is one of them. Last year while at a fan convention, Jus In Bello, a silly mini song about “Makin Bacon” was created by Jones, and Jason Manns even accompanied his little diddy. This past year, he turned that fun jingle into an impressive song. On a Facebook post, Jones elaborated:

“At one of my panels I was riffing on a nickname I had with my family and friends: “Captain Jingles”. Bestowed upon me for my annoying knack of singing little ditties that would linger and bore into the brains of said “victims”. To button up my story I ad-libbed a little tune. I sang a hook that accompanied my sometime-breakfast ritual, “Makin’ bacon, makin’ bacon!”

“Thanks to this wonderful new invention called the Internet, that moment had been filmed, posted, reposted and tweeted numerous times in the span of 24 hours. At my panel the next day, a wonderful colleague and exquisitely talented singer/songwriter, Jason Manns did a comedy callback to the song. We ended up doing an acoustic rendition and cemented the “ear-worm” into my social media’s consciousness for the next 24 hours. On the third day, at my last panel, members of the audience spontaneously started singing the “Makin’ Bacon” refrain as I entered the stage. For days, weeks and months afterward videos, memes and requests for me to record a song kept streaming my way.”

Jones went on talk about how he had the idea to make this into a song but couldn’t figure out how to seriously sing the lyrics “Makin Bacon” until one early morning.

“After a night of tossing and turning I bolted awake at 4 AM and a “hurtin’ song”, about a single dad trying to rally and find love again came pouring out of me in under 45 minutes (pretty much the exact lyrics you hear today).”

Jones created the studio version with the help of friends Lyman Medeiros, Vinnie Corbo, and Rich Breen. The song was released around the one-year anniversary mark of the idea being sparked at the fan convention and the proceeds from the song are going to Jones’s charity of choice, The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. David Haydn – Jones has since joined the talented musician group of the Supernatural fandom.
