Keep calm and carry on ‘Supernatural’ is back for its final seven episodes. Tonight aired the episode ‘Last Holiday’, appropriately titled as it actually is the last holiday-themed episode fans will see from the series. Tonight’s episode was directed by actor Matt Cohen, and it felt nice to have the returning episode be an “all in the family” feeling one. This was Cohen’s “Supernatural” directorial debut.
In this episode, we see Sam and Dean struggle to open up a dialogue with Jack but after the character, Mrs. Butters gets introduced, the episode becomes really fun. The Winchesters accidentally set loose a Wood-Nymph (played by Meagen Fay) after Dean, fed up with technology, restarted the bunker. Mrs. Butters, as she liked to be called, is a particularly funny lady who brings Sam, Dean, and Jack together through many celebrations.
Mrs. Butters’ character was from the ’50s and was cast away awaiting the old Men of Letters that she served to come back, she referred to them as her family. But sadly they were all killed by Abadon, after learning this she takes on the Winchesters as her new family.
Hospitality and fun ensue until Jack finds a video of Mrs. Butters being a murderous entity and he sadly gets kidnapped by her. She has a very black and white sense of good and evil and since Jack is Devil’s son, she says she has to be killed because he is evil. She winds up kidnapping Dean as well after he tried to reason with her. We actually get to see a cute bonding conversation between Jack and Dean.
Sam, however, was out on a date with Eileen. Upon returning, he realizes what happened, tries to kill Mrs. Butters, and winds up getting tortured. After Dean figured a way out, the three of them race to reason with her and tell her not to kill Jack. It sinks in that she herself is kidnapped and brainwashed by the old Men of Letters.
After this realization, she stops fighting and declares she wishes just to be back in the woods. Mrs. Butters gets a sweet exit, no blood spilled, except for Sam’s fingers. The end of the episode shows Dean presenting Jack with the birthday cake that he made for him. A very sweet, and pure effort.
Sweet episodes will be going pretty quickly as the finale creeps closer. Fans everywhere are emotionally anticipating the end. A few questions left to be answered. How will Jack defeat God? Will the boys have a happy ending?
Only time will tell! Six episodes left! Stay tuned for more “Supernatural” content here on Nerd Alert News.
