Does Rick Worthy love cake or pie?

Talented and versatile actor Rick Worthy is known and loved for his iconic roles not only on “Supernatural,” but he also played Dean Henry Fogg on “The Magicians.” He was K’tano in “Stargate SG-1,” and Simon the Cylon in “Battlestar Galactica.” Fans have also seen him as 6 different characters on various “Star Trek” shows. In “The Man in the High Castle” viewers remember Rick as Lem Washington. Originally from Detroit, MI he graduated from the University of Michigan and moved to Chicago where he rocked the stage at several prestigious theaters. Nerd Alert News had the chance to chat with Rick at the inaugural GalactiCon in Denver, CO this past weekend Nov. 24-26, 2023.

Colleen Bement: Thank you for joining Nerd Alert News at the very first GalactiCon.

Rick Worthy: I’m so happy to be here. I love conventions, and when my agent said do you want to do GalactiCon, I hadn’t heard of it but it sounded great! I hope I put some smiles on people’s faces.

Colleen Bement: You definitely have. My first question is random. Do you like pie or cake? We all know which one Dean Winchester would choose.

Rick Worthy: Absolutely cake, and particularly red velvet.

Colleen Bement: Nice! I don’t get that answer a lot. I love it.

Rick Worthy: And especially cupcakes.

Colleen Bement: You were amazing as the Alpha vampire in “Supernatural.” I’m curious, did you actually have to audition for that or was the role just yours?

Rick Worthy: I actually auditioned for the role of Crowley and three other roles. They kept picking other people. And then the last thing I auditioned for before the Alpha Vamp was Crowley, and I really, really wanted it. It was a great audition. They didn’t give me the whole script –they rarely do. They give you enough information so that you can figure out what you’re going to do in the audition. I’d been watching the series and I was like oh man, I would love to play this character. I finished the audition. It was probably a 10-page audition. I was extremely prepared like I always am. I’d pretty much memorized everything. Erik Kripke’s sitting there and I could see him nodding like that’s good–keep going. And then cut. End of the audition and I’m thinking I got the job, but my agent said they gave it to this other guy named Mark Sheppard and I was like ahh, dammit. I know him from “Battlestar Galactica.” I was happy for him but it broke my heart and I said I’m done with “Supernatural.” And then a little bit of time goes by–a couple years or so, and the Alpha Vamp audition comes up and I was like now that’s a great role. I’ve got to get this one.

Colleen Bement: I’m glad you did because you were great!

Rick Worthy: Thank you.

Colleen Bement: Let’s touch on “Stargate”. You were great. You were badass evil. Would you have a quick story from the set to share?

Rick Worthy: Absolutely. Christopher Judge. When I got to set, Chris welcomed me to set first and said hi, I’m Chris Judge and I was like I know who you are. I love your work. He said we’re going to work our butts off and then we’re going to go party our butts off. But we have to earn that party time. And we did. We made sure that we had everything as best as we could get it. A lot of the elaborate stunt fighting, which I did 98% of it myself because I do Martial Arts. They asked me, can you do anything and I said yeah I can. That helps the director a lot because I can do most of the stunts and the camera can see my face, instead of the stunt double.

Colleen Bement: Unfortunately that’s all the time we have and you have fans waiting. Thank you for your time!
