At Last!

In-person Colorado conventions are set to make their return starting this September 2021. Denver area con-goers are cautiously excited with their fingers crossed that these events will take place this Fall. The Rocky Mountain Region has always been a hub for the convention scene and people are missing their friends. No doubt the Blue Bear at the Colorado Convention Center is lonely without his annual cosplay parade! Nerd Alert News chatted with some devoted con-goers. See what they are most looking forward to when conventions make their return.

MJ Ostaff
I’m stoked to experience the excitement and the atmosphere. Being, once again, able to enjoy my fandoms and interests with like-minded people who are just as giddy to be there as I am. Simply wonderful.

Lena Peterson
I am ready to see J2 and LoudenSwain and Speight, Jr….I can’t to hear what they really have been doing in the last year. What was their reaction to the finale? And what is the feelings on a new set without one another? Mainly J2 questions…I want to witness their reactions and moods and see what shenanigans happen onstage. I like to see how the CON promoters are going to do the photos because SPN peeps are big on customizing their pose. And yes, meeting other fans. What new craftworks have they been working on?

Chris Ferris
Seeing friends I haven’t seen in almost two years!

Michelle Tolen Reeves
I am looking forward to being around my friends again and participating in all the activities we enjoy while at a convention.

Stacy Duensing Geiger
Hearing and seeing the boys and the rest of the cast in person.

Steven Staubach
Klingon drinking parties, the showroom swords, and amazing people.

Ashley Laney

The judgement-free atmosphere and being surrounded by like-minded people that are just as excited as me!

Rosie Badgett

Missing the ‘in-person sharing’ of a fav show!

Ed TuQwanac

Seeing friends and convention family in a relaxing fun-filled atmosphere.

Let’s support our Colorado conventions by purchasing tickets to what will be a long-awaited reunion with friends, cosplay, gaming, celebrities, and as much normalcy as possible for 2021.

Colorado Festival of Horror

Designed by Gerhard Kaaihue

Horror fans near and far, alive or undead, the Colorado Festival of Horror (COFOH) is bringing us an in-person event September 10-12, 2021. The organizers of the event are cautiously optimistic that 2021 will go on as planned at the Embassy Suites by Hilton, Denver Central Park. They can boast these very cool guests: Charlton Horror Comic Book Artist Bob Hall, Co-Writer of “30 Days of Night” Steve Niles, “Scream Queen” actress Brinke Stevens, and “Mikey” actor Brian Bonsall are all still confirmed for this year.

From the staff to their fans:

From Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to the novels of Stephen King, from Nosferatu to Freddie Krueger, humans have long delighted in being frightened. The Colorado Festival of Horror is a passion project from horror fans Bret and Jeanni Smith, Dwight, and Lisa Thompson, and Daniel Crosier. They are working to cultivate the horror community, engage fans, and create a fun, safe, all-inclusive inaugural event September 10-12, 2021.

Nan Desu Kan (NDK)

Denver area Anime fans have come together every year but in 2020 to celebrate their passion for the art. This year Nan Desu Kan (NDK) will take place Sept, 3-5, 2021 at the gorgeous Gaylord Resort & Convention Center in Aurora, CO. Attendees meet celebrity guests, enjoy panels, video rooms, and play an impressive variety of gaming. To some, NDK is a family reunion where friends from all over the Rocky Mountain area gather once a year to cosplay and catch up. What started out with a little under 100 people back in 1997 has exploded to about 30,000 a year and is by far the largest in 13 surrounding states, excluding Texas.

One of Colorado’s longest-running conventions will be returning with an in-person event the first weekend of October 2021. It isn’t that hard to imagine, is it? The guests. The panels. The cosplay, and of course the friends. COVID has brought all of our favorite events to a screeching halt, thanks to the vaccines and the majority of people’s willingness to wear masks and social distance, conventions appear to be happening later this year. Hosting the fun will be the Denver Marriott Tech Center–a favorite location to many pop culture conventions. Already the organizers have confirmed Guests of Honor, G. Willow Wilson, Rebecca Hicks, and Rachel Swirsky, plus over 75 other Authors, Artists, and Speakers to be announced.
