“Ten Year Anniversary For The Groundbreaking Series Kicks Off With A Curated Spotlight Page on HBO Max, A Cause-Driven 73-Hour ‘MaraThrone,’ Special-Edition Products And More”
It’s hard to believe it has been 10 years since the premier of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones,’ but this April the show is celebrating its “Iron Anniversary” with several special events. The series gathered over 45 million viewers in the US and was distributed to 207 territories all over the world. Millions of fans continue to celebrate the stories of Westeros and the fight for the Iron Throne even though the finale aired in May of 2019. This month, HBO has big plans to celebrate right along with them.
Available now, HBO Max is featuring an in-app experience: “Game of Thrones” Spotlight Page, designed for every level of the GoT Fandom.
According to the HBO press release, “the page includes a treasure trove of content, with over 150 videos of behind-the-scenes extras, cast interviews, clips and trailers—many of which have never been available on the streaming platform before.”
If you are just learning about the show (or wanting to refresh your memory), there is a broad introduction of the characters and the world that you are diving into. The app also features creations filled with easter eggs and spoilers—so newbies be warned.
On Saturday, April 10th, HBO will launch the ‘Game of Thrones’ MaraThrone (no that’s not a typo) with every episode from season one beginning at 10A.M. ET. The challenge for fans is to continue to binge watch all 73 episodes of the series on their HBO Max to raise money for global charities.
“For two weeks, ‘Game of Thrones’ cast members will rally the fandom to contribute to one of ten noble causes: Women for Women International, World Central Kitchen, Conservation International, International Rescue Committee (IRC), UNICEF, FilmAid International, SameYou, Royal Mencap Society, National Urban League and The Trevor Project.”
In addition, there are six marathon “routes” that allow fans to experience the show in unique ways. Viewers can follow Daenerys through all of the moments that made her the Mother of Dragons or join Arya Stark on her journey of Braavos and identity, even watch the Army of the Dead come to life. Fans can focus on all of the best battles and relieve the biggest spoiler episodes all over again.
Rounding out the month, HBO plans to surprise three couples who were married in Westeros-themed ceremonies with some very special anniversary gifts: “Thrones”-branded barrels of wine, custom chalices, and elaborate cakes designed in partnership with local bakeries to represent the ‘Game of Thrones’ houses of Targaryen, Stark and Lannister.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products and their licensing partners have some special in store for the fans as well. They have created some special-edition GoT themed products especially for the “Iron Anniversary” that include:
-
A one-of-a-kind Imperial egg by Fabergé, the world’s most iconic artist jeweler, inspired by Daenerys Targaryen, and co-designed by series Emmy Award-winning costume designer Michele Clapton. The egg includes a miniature crown designed by Ms. Clapton, which represents the crown Daenerys would have worn had she taken the Iron Throne.
- Mikkeller, the Danish craft beer company, have launched a range of beers inspired by the series, that will let fans all over the world celebrate one stein at a time. Fans can cheer with the first beer in the assortment called “Iron Anniversary IPA.”
- Pop culture products leader Funko have unveiled a new iron-textured limited-edition assortment of fan-favorite “Game of Thrones” Pop! vinyl collectibles and new figures based on Arya Stark, Khal Drogo, and many more. Available for pre-order now at retailers everywhere.
Raise your house banner and join HBO in their month-long celebration to commemorate the series, engage passionate fans, and ignite audiences’ excitement for the next iteration of the franchise, with “House of the Dragon” slated to begin production this year.
If you want a piece of Westeros for your own, ‘Game of Thrones: Complete Collection’ is available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and through select digital retailers. The complete series is also available to stream on HBO Max.
