We here at Nerd Alert News have been pretty excited for “The Mandalorian” for weeks now. So of course, I downloaded the Disney+ app first thing in the morning and watched the first episode with a nice cup of coffee and a big grin on my face. If you now expect a detailed review or episode recap, this, however, will disappoint you. Since critiques and spoilers galore will be available on almost every “Star Wars” website, forum, or social media group, we here at Nerd Alert News decided to go with a slightly different route. Below you will find an arbitrarily numbered and highly subjective list of reasons why you should absolutely watch “The Mandalorian!“

Sounds intriguing since you still need more incentives to actually watch the first episode? Or are you already watching and want to compare our list with your own idea of what makes this show the epic space adventure it is? In both cases, please read ahead, deep breath, and let’s dive into why we think this show is the next best thing since the Popeyes’ chicken sandwich craze!

1.) A Western in space – but on steroids

If you‘ve ever listened to fans talk about why they love “Star Wars” you have likely heard that it is like a “Western in space“ line before. Usually delivered with a lot of enthusiasm and a declaration of love for all the shoot-outs, the swashbuckling pilots and Jedi, the good versus evil plot lines, and the adventurous soul underlying the saga as a whole. If that‘s something you always enjoyed about the “Star Wars” universe, be prepared to get a whole lot more of it with “The Mandalorian.” There are blaster and bar fights galore, dubious characters with unclear agendas, tragic backstories, and there is even a scene where the hero must learn to ride, like a cowboy, I am not kidding. It’s everything my Western loving “Star Wars” heart could have wished for.

2.) It‘s gorgeous; no really, it would win a beauty contest of TV shows hands down

If you‘ve read our interview with Bernard Bullen you know that the set designs and costumes were definitely something to look forward too. But who am I kidding, you likely watched the trailers a gazillion times and had your own high expectations. I‘m pleased to say the first episode did not disappoint. Color schemes, the design, and setup of technology and nature alike, the different alien species, and even the realism of grime on armor and clothing were a visual feast.

3.) The Acting

Everyone and I mean everyone in this first episode did a phenomenal job. I really can’t say much else. So go an enjoy all the talent on screen, including the voice acting, it’s pure joy, “I have spoken”.

4.) Unfamiliar comfort

You know how it feels when you go to a new and fancy restaurant, but then they have a classic on the menu, with just a little unknown twist? Like a phenomenal Mare e Monti Mac and Cheese with caramelized mushrooms and shrimp on top? This is pretty much how “The Mandalorian” feels, it’s shiny and new but still has this comforting feel of familiarity. There are great one-liners every “Star Wars” fan will want to quote to death, you’ll see droids, fugitives in carbonite, there are talks about imperial credits losing their value, but also hints to the emergence of the first order. It’s a delight!

5.) You might get the answers to many of your most burning Star Wars questions

Without giving away too much detail, I simply have to say that the first episode gave us a multitude of glimpses into the potential that lies within “The Mandalorian.” You’ll follow breadcrumbs of hints for storylines that promise us a renewed view on the “Star Wars” universe. There is are so many promises on the horizon to answer some of our burning questions or give us even more. For instance, I’m now even more confused about what is considered food and what is considered a friend/pet in the “Star Wars universe!” The final scene, in particular, was a big teaser, giving me hope we might learn more about the species that brought us one of our favorite Jedi masters. It was likely one of the best endings of a TV show pilot in television history. And I can’t wait to see more!

So here it was, five very subjective and (mostly) spoiler-free reasons you should watch “The Mandalorian.” If we still haven’t convinced you, maybe we have to send the Guild after you. In the meantime, long live these Bounty Hunters!
