Colleen Bement: There is so much excitement around “The Twilight Zone!” What can you share about your experience on the set?

Hana Kinani: Oh, it was such a great time! The episode I was in (Nightmare at 30,000 Feet) happened to have a really big cast and between that and the start of a brand new show, there was so much excitement and fun in the air.
The cast and crew were all turned passionate and kind. Everyone was smiling, even on the overnight shoot!

There’s something really magical about taking a show that everyone remembers and paying it homage. It was clear in all the little details that the aim was to be respectful to the original while still doing our own version.

CB: We have a lot of “Supernatural” readers and I know they’d all love to know what it was like to be on the season 13 episode ‘Tombstone.’ Pray tell.

HK: They’re not alone, I love “Supernatural!” I’ve been a big fan for years and the fact that the show films in Vancouver was actually one of my reasons for moving here. I was thrilled to get to be a part of the show, especially now that I’ve heard that there will only be one more season.
Instead of spending time in my trailer, I actually stayed outside in the rain to watch them filming all the action scenes. There were guns fired, windows shattered and a man was sent flying through the air on ropes. It was my first time seeing those types of stunts in person and it was amazing. Being there and watching the actors that I’ve respected for years doing their work was such a pleasure.

CB: What other cool projects do you have in the works?

HK: I actually just finished a production of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.” I was playing Honey, the simple alcoholic who loves to dance. I love her character and got deeply attached so now that it’s done, I’m so sad. haha. I’m hoping something else fun comes along soon. I’m ready!

CB: When did it hit you that you wanted the career of an actor?

HK: I was always interested. I think if anyone really thinks back, they’ve always known in their gut what makes them truly happy and what they are meant to do in life.

A few things got in my way for a while. I was very shy and I was bullied when I was young, which rocked my confidence even more. I didn’t think it was something I was capable of doing, so I pushed the desire aside for a while. No matter how hard I tried though, I kept coming back to acting and how happy it made me and how proud I am to be able to truly share emotions and experiences with people.

It’s definitely a scary direction to take, it’s not as guaranteed to be stable but in life, nothing is guaranteed so you should definitely do what you love.

CB: Tell your fans about your doggies. I saw them on Instagram and they’re absolutely adorable.

HK: Aw, thank you. They are the loves of my life! I’ve had Kiba, my little spaniel cross for 13 years now and I’m pretty sure she’s one of my soulmates. She’s always been my most reliable friend.

Jigsaw, on the other hand, is such an overgrown baby. She’s so sweet and cuddly. She’s such a good girl and more loving than any dog I’ve ever met. Unfortunately, she gets a little discrimination sometimes because she’s a pit bull. That’s so hard for a mom to see.

CB: What do you do in your spare time?

HK: I have really random hobbies. I love to draw comics, play the sims and write. I also belly dance and do Muay Thai!
