The third season of Netflix’s hit series “Virgin River” premiered on July 9th and actress Lynda Boyd returned to her role as Lilly. Boyd plays a kind-hearted and steadfast friend who learns of a terrifying secret that could shatter the entire Virgin River community. The Vancouver-born actress comes to the screen and stage with three Canadian Screen Award nominations. “Supernatural” fans remember her from her role as the Wraith in the episode ‘Pac-Man Fever.’ Some of her recent projects included Amazon Prime’s “Tin Star”, Danny Boyle’s “Trust” for FX, CW’s “Arrow” and “Supergirl”. This fall she can be seen as Crystal Steele in Global TV’s popular series “Family Law.”

Nerd Alert News found a few moments to chat with Ms. Boyd about her projects and a couple of amazing life adventures she enjoyed.

Colleen Bement: Congratulations on returning to your role as Lilly in “Virgin River.” Two questions:

1.) What are you allowed to share about this season and what’s in store for your character?

Lynda Boyd: I’m really not allowed to share anything because some people haven’t watched the whole of season 3.

2.) What has the experience filming “Virgin River” been like?

LB: I have loved every minute of filming “Virgin River”… I’ve worked with many of the actors before and it felt like family for all of us.

CB: Are you a hopeless romantic? I know that I am. “Virgin River” is right up my alley. I’ve seen a couple of episodes, and I really need to get caught up.

LB: I think I may be a hopeless romantic too! I think that anything we find in life that evokes joy and hopefulness in life is a good thing!

CB: Do you happen to have any other projects in the works that you’re allowed to share with us?

LB: I have been working on a wonderful Canadian series called “Family Law” with Jewel Staite and Victor Garber. It should be premiering in the fall.

CB: I definitely remember you from your guest roles on “Supernatural” as the Wraith in ‘Pac-Man Fever’ and Fortuna in ‘The Gamblers.” Would you happen to have any fun stories from the set?

LB: For starters, those two lads (Jared and Jensen) are spectacular human beings… they make guests feel totally welcome on the set, so I had many laughs working with them.

CB: Your bio is just amazing and I’m blown away by all of the things that you’ve done and experienced. Two questions:

1.) I’m a SOCal girl and I used to camp in Joshua Tree when I was young. Tell me a little about the Vision Quest that you did there?

LB: In the spring of 1999, I was in LA for pilot season, and I met an actor who was casually talking about his latest vision quest. I was startled by the term because I’d never heard it before. The next thing I did was go online and research vision quests, then I joined one that was being hosted by two Jungian therapists from Santa Cruz. We spent 2 days learning about the medicine wheel, then went off into the desert to find our individual places of power. On days 3, 4, and 5 you camp alone in the desert, fasting on only water. I started to have crazy daydreams of my own death, of letting go of the past ways that no longer work. It changed me forever. I’ve since gone back to Joshua 2 times to revisit the place I camped alone.

2.) A visit to Tokyo is number 2 on my bucket list. What was your favorite thing about living in that incredible city?

LB: I was a performer at an Expo in Yokohama in 1989 and the following year I returned to Japan to see what career opportunities might be there for me. I sang in an Aussie pub in Ropungi, a hostess bar in Akasaka Mitska among other things… I was very aware at the time that I stood out, being a blond gaijin otherwise known as a ‘misplaced foreigner’ in Tokyo. When I came home, I went to a psychic who told me I had bad karma with Japan. I never went back!

The latest season will give fans 10 drama-filled episodes. According to Netflix “Virgin River” highlights include, a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane, and a new romance, in a twist-packed season that’ll keep fans on the edge of their seats.
