Life feels a bit more normal again with the return of Nerd Nite Denver. Yes, Hanna is back to challenge our brains and make us laugh. End the work-week with this event that activates the mind while learning, laughing, and of course, a little drinking. Nerd Nite Denver is next week, July 30th, 2021 at one of the coolest venues in Denver: The Bug Theatre. The gang can’t wait to see those nerdy faces in person! This month, they roll for initiative with Gregory Marxen, explore volcanoes on the moon with Bill Farrand, and get political in a galaxy far far away with your host, Hanna Aucoin!

What is Nerd Nite Denver? To keep it simple, it is like TED Talks with drinking. Thinking and drinking! School’s in session and it is actually super fun! Investigate Friday’s speakers.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS 101

It is no secret Dungeons and Dragons has been a staple in nerd-related popular culture for the last several decades. It has been featured in “Stranger Things,” “The Big Band Theory,” “Futurama,” and “The Simpsons,” to name a few. Join Gregory Marxen, who has been playing D&D for nearly a decade, and is answering four simple questions: What is it? How do you play it? Where did it even come from? And why do I have so many dice?

HOT LAVA ON A COLD MOON: A SURVEY OF LUNAR VOLCANIC FEATURES

Earlier in its geologic history, the Moon experienced great floods of lava, the formation of volcanic domes, and huge eruptions spreading glassy ash over wide distances. Some isolated locales might have experienced relatively recent volcanism. A variety of lunar volcanic terrains and how they have been interpreted (and sometimes misinterpreted) will be described.
