Fans are looking forward to yet another new “Trek” series. “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” was recently announced by Paramount+ and it will follow a group of young cadets as they come of age in one of the most iconic places in the galaxy. Set to begin production in 2024, there will be a new class of students. And, let’s be real here. We all know that it won’t exactly be 24/7 serious learning, so, we venture a few guesses and imagine what Starfleet Academy will be like in this new series.
First off, what are the classes at Starfleet Academy? What does the academy curriculum even look like? Sure, there are the usual subjects like astrophysics and xenolinguistics. Maybe even taught by a descendant of Neil deGrasse Tyson himself. But what about the classes that don’t make it into the official course catalog? “How to seduce an alien for fun and profit”, anyone? Or maybe “Starship piloting while hungover”? Will the humor resemble “Star Trek: Lower Decks” or like the glimpse of the academy from the first of J.J. Abrams’ Trek films.
We think the real drama at Starfleet Academy is in the cadet’s quarters. Think about it, you’ve got a bunch of young adults living in “dorm rooms” with nothing to do but study and drink Synthehol. Maybe even some Romulan Ale will be available on the down low. For those of us who remember college, we know how it goes. We all know that Starfleet cadets like to blow off steam in creative ways. Maybe they have zero-gravity keggers, or they play a game of “truth or dare” that involves teleporting naked into the dean’s office.
Let’s not forget about the cadet romances. Whether human, Vulcan, Klingon, or Andorian, this is bound to come up. Will there be debates on the Existence of Klingon Love Poetry: In between engineering and combat training, cadets argue over whether Klingons can have a softer side and express their feelings in verse.
And can we talk about fashion at Starfleet Academy? Those uniforms are eye-catching, but are they practical? Functional? Mini-skirts? High-waisted pants and form-fitting tops? It’s like a cross between an 80s workout video and a futuristic disco. Although to be fair, the latest films and shows have definitely done the Trek costuming justice. We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out in this new series.
All joking aside, we’re excited to see what the “Star Trek: Starfleet Academy” series has in store for us. Whether it’s laughs, tears, or epic space battles, we know it’s going to be a wild ride. We here at Nerd Alert News are looking forward to learning more about the “Star Trek” universe and what Starfleet officers go through to get the chance to defend and explore space.
