Colleen Bement: Thank you very much for taking the time to chat. “Gotham Knights” hits The CW on March 14th and fans are excited. What can you tell us about your character and experience on the set?

Mercedes Blanche: “Gotham Knights” was a bit of a small role. I played a reporter, and it was just one day on the set. It was lovely. We were shooting last May in Toronto, like most of the movies that I was shooting, I’m just an aspiring actress so I haven’t done a lot of things, but there are things I’m very proud of. It was made in Toronto. I was looking for an agency in the US as well because I’m mostly represented in Canada. It was very nice. I really had more things to say being a reporter, but it was still fun.

CB: Let’s talk about your other projects.

MB: Yes, I was wrapping up “Robyn Hood” recently. That’s what happened in December. That was much more fun. I played Madison and it’s a really fun version of the original Robyn Hood. It’s a much more modern and a more hip style. Basically, Robyn has this masked friend and they fight for freedom and equality in the hood. There are a lot of things going on. I played the lover or the partner of one of the bad guys, and I cannot tell you any more than that. It’s coming out this June and it’s going to be super cool. I had a bunch of screen time so that was definitely something that was huge for me.

CB: I love it. I’m a fan of all of the versions of Robin Hood, especially the Disney animated. I’ll bet our readers will enjoy it.

MB: I’m very excited for this and I encourage everyone to watch it because I think it’s going to be amazing. There will probably be a season two. It’s going to be awesome.

CB: That does sound exciting. Let’s switch gears to chat about “The Boys.” You were in three episodes of the show. That has to be one of the freshest and most creative shows on TV. So, let’s talk about “The Boys.”

MB: If you watch the show then you know—it is a lot! I hadn’t watched the show before I was cast and that’s when I speed-watched the whole thing. I was like wow. This is a lot. There are so many things going on. I got the audition right away, and I got the call right away that you’re going to be X-ray. Wow, that was amazing. I was part of one of the most intense episodes–Herogasm. That was such a huge thing. Everybody was talking about it. Twitter was blowing up, and it was so hard to not post or say anything because I had to wait a year to be able to say anything or post photos.

We were shooting in Toronto in one of those mansions they rented and it was very hot. It was 12 days and it was insane. It was a bunch of naked people. There was a lot of nudity and violence. We were trained by an Intimacy Coordinator to get prepared mentally because it was going to be a lot. Everyone was super nice. I’m not going to lie, there were moments when it was uncomfortable, there were moments we were exhausted, and there was tension because there were a lot of people. Here we had a scene where superheroes were having a huge orgy, right? It was a lot to take in. It’s a mixed feeling. It was a very good experience, and it was also a very bad one because I feel like I learned a lot doing those kinds of nudity scenes, right?

I also just have to mention that Jensen (Ackles) was very nice. I had a huge crush on him ever since I was a teenager, so I was just like — you know, I was butt-naked standing in front of the guy and I was like, I hope he’s going to remember me! Honestly, everyone was super nice and respectful.

CB: I didn’t know there was such a thing as an Intimacy Coordinator.

MB: Yeah, for me it was Kaycee, and it’s funny because right after we shot the orgy scene, I went to LA for an audition, and I was watching the news and I see Kaycee on the show talking about “They Boys” orgy scene on the news. I was like, no way this is serious. I sat down and watched the whole thing. She was talking about her experience and how long she was working with the actors and how hard it was to be an Intimacy Coordinator. It is required when there is nudity involved on set. She was the person that you could go to if something didn’t feel right. She’s a very comforting person.

CB: I watched it and I can imagine what it was like for the cast and crew.

MB: Yeah, I kept thinking about it after every shot and take that everyone is going to go home and think about all these naked people. It was such a weird moment and experience. Also, we were kind of bummed because in our audition we had speaking roles and we were flying, and for some reason, they decided to cut most of them. There was already a lot of drama, so they decided to cut I would say 60% of it. I was looking for the conversations and everything. I mean we were literally flying everywhere. I think they really wanted to focus on just the sexual part of it because it was already a lot.

CB: That kind of leads me to my next question. If you could have a superpower, what would it be? Mine would definitely be flight.

MB: I would love to be invisible. That would be such a good superpower. Imagine if you are invisible and you can just sneak in everywhere and listen to conversations. To be invisible when I want to, and turn back whenever I want to.

CB: Tell us about your Twitch and TikTok channels. Do you enjoy interacting with your fans?

MB: I’m going to start with Twitch. It is going beautifully. I’m so new to this whole thing and it kind of like blew me away because it’s almost 40,000 followers/subscribers. To me, it’s kind of like a podcast and I’m really enjoying talking to people. There are so many of them found me based on my IMDB. They’re asking about “The Boys” and they’re asking about movies. It’s a really comfortable family feeling and I’m sharing a lot of information, of what I can share about how filming and shootings are going. TikTok I started earlier in 2020. When COVID hit I had nothing to do, so I started my TikTok. I realized that I had 4 million followers, and it kept going and now I have 8 million followers which is insane. I got verified on TikTok not too long ago, and I got verified on Twitch, and I’m working on the Instagram verification. I’m so happy with my social media presence. It’s beautiful.

I try to mix it up with games here and there. I always ask my followers if they want to see what I’m doing. What games do I play, and I try to do gaming sessions.

CB: What type of gaming?

MB: I’m waiting for Hogwarts Legacy to come out on the 7th. I’m very excited. I pre-ordered that!

CB: I love it! OK, let’s finish with a Speed Round!

Speed Round:

  • Favorite Comfort Food: Any kind of sandwich.
  • Favorite Gas Station Snack. Mine is Peanut M&M’s: Oh my gosh, I was going to say the same thing!
  • Latest TV Show you’ve binge-watched: Wednesday on Netflix. It was so good. I’m so in love with Jenna Ortega right now.
  • Movie you watch over and over: Forrest Gump. I know it’s a little corny. I think it’s a well-done cinematic masterpiece. I would like to sit down with Tom Hanks and ask him how did you do that?!
  • Favorite country you’ve visited: I just came back from Europe, but before that, I was in Mexico. That’s much more exotic. I fell in love with Mexico.
