For “Supernatural” fans Rob Benedict is known as Chuck, a.k.a God. An awkward, nerdy, cat loving, Lord. But in “30 Miles from Nowhere” Rob is Larry, a crass, rude, jerk. At least on the surface. Larry uses his hard exterior as a protective shell and a way to deal with underlying personal issues.

The movie is set in the woods of Wisconsin. They gather together for the funeral of their college friend; bringing their life and baggage with them. The film joins these friends for an increasing set of odd events occurring over the few days they are in this house. Beginning with a rainstorm and loss of power. Perfect setup for any horror movie, right?

I asked a few fans to review the movie and give their perspectives on the film and Rob’s role in the film. I will join in at the end of my review and rating.

Laura Miller had this to say: “30 Miles from Nowhere” is a great indie thriller! It’s very well written with an interesting plot and twisted ending! The acting is also great as each character is unique in their own way and the actors portray that very well! Rob Benedict, just like anything he is in, does an amazing job! His character, as well as this movie, is something a little different for him, but he was perfect! I would recommend this movie to anyone that likes thrillers and to any Rob Benedict fan!

Carrie Preston, Rob Benedict, Seana Koefoed, and Cathy Shim. Still from 30 Miles From Nowhere

Julie LaRue thinks that this movie was solid. She has this to say: Horror, Suspense, comedy, “30 Miles from Nowhere” has it all. The film is beautifully written and directed. Rob’s performance was amazing to see. It was a different kind of role, one he has not portrayed in quite a few years. He pulls it off brilliantly while added so much nonverbal backstory if you pay attention. Every detail matters in this film, everything has a meaning and that is fresh to see in a movie industry full of filler just to get it to the right time. The only critique I have is I feel that the 2nd and 3rd act feel a bit rushed to me but it does not detach from the experience so much that its a real negative. Overall it’s a fantastic film with solid quality in every aspect.

Rae thinks “30 Miles from Nowhere” was an amazing film, especially for being crowdfunded. The cinematography was extremely well shot, and the colors and use of the bokeh in the bar were eye-catching. The characters were well written and felt like actual college buddies. Rob did amazing as Larry and he has a knack for playing not so good guys. I felt the fear and anxiety that all the characters were experiencing. I highly recommended it!
Kelli Lair came to watch “30 Miles from Nowhere” because of Rob. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, because I hadn’t really looked into the movie a whole lot, but it turned out that I loved the movie. I am used to seeing Rob outside of SPN since I’ve watched all the movies and many of the shows he has been in.

“Supernatural” was what brought me to knowing who Rob was, but I had seen his work prior to “Supernatural” I later came to realize and I began to search out other projects he has worked on. He is one of my favorite people in the world and I will always do my best to support what he does, this movie was no exception. It helps that the movie was wonderful too.

Rob Benedict in 30 Miles From Nowhere

30 Miles is the perfect recipe for a horror film: personal baggage, unresolved conflict, stubbornness, misplaced trust, and ambition. Of course, there are many other factors that come into play, as with any movie there is a complex web of events that get the characters to where they are.
This movie is written well and gives us back story to each character in the short amount of time the movie goes on. Seana Kofoed did a spectacular job giving us a plot line and characters with substance. The cinematography is gorgeous and I applaud the director, Caitlin Koller, for capturing the movie so beautifully.

Rob did a fantastic job of making me forget he ever played Chuck. His acting talent was able to shine through in this role. Of course, he has been in many diverse roles, but each time I see a new one I am reminded how good of an actor he really is. He makes you forget that Rob Benedict exists. I do admit it is hard sometimes to separate the man I have met from the person I see on screen because they share the same face, but Rob always makes it a little easier because in a role like this he makes you believe he really is Larry and not Rob.
