You probably know Jake Abel from his breathtaking performance as Adam Milligan and the archangel, Michael, on “Supernatural” or from his riveting portrayal of Luke in the “Percy Jackson” franchise.

There is no doubt that Mr. Abel’s acting skills are on point! However, did you know that he is also a talented cook? Jake has taken this time in quarantine to show us just how capable he is with an oven and to raise some money for a few wonderful causes in the process.

It all started with an Instagram Live where Jake decided to show us how to make a homemade pizza and salad. Unfortunately, that ended in a pretty entertaining fail. A pizza stone was cracked, cheese spilled all over the inside of the preheated oven, and the smoke detector was set off. At least he and his wife had plenty of salad for dinner! In the end, a friend of Jake’s ended up ordering and sending a pizza to Jake’s house. Lucky for us, this cooking disaster sparked an idea in Jake’s mind.

In an Instagram post from April 25, 2020, Jake stated, “Thinking of starting a weekly cooking show called “Jake & Bake” where I make difficult, high-fail-rate recipes. As far as I know, it’d be the only cooking show where you’re never quite sure if the host will either make a delicious meal or fail in a blaze of spectacular glory. In last night’s episode, I did not disappoint on the latter option.” It appeared Mr. Abel was determined to prove himself—or set his kitchen on fire trying. Either way, “Jake & Bake” was officially started and his fans were thrilled.

Despite what Mr. Abel may have thought, Jake & Bake has so far—with the behind-the-scenes help of his lovely wife, Allie Wood Abel—been a roaring success. He has tackled Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes, Texas Sheet Cake French Macarons, Avocado toast with bacon, poached eggs, mimosas, homemade pop tarts, and golf ball cake pops. These delicious creations turned out beautifully and were accompanied by great music, dance breaks, jokes, technical difficulties, and easy-to-follow instructions from Jake. There is even a Jake & Bake Spotify playlist you can follow here that has over nineteen hours of music.

While watching Jake dance and cook is a treat all on its own, he has also had some pretty awesome guests join in on his live streams. Alexandra Daddario (Percy Jackson and Baywatch), Kyle Gallner (Outsiders and American Sniper), and pro-golfer Patrick Rodgers have all stopped by. Each one shared fun stories of their time with Jake and raised quite a bit of money for charities of the guests’ choice through generous donations from the viewers. Between the three, a total of $1,595.58 went to CARE, Feeding America, and Rays of Sunshine.

You can clearly see how much fun Jake is having with the live streams and how grateful he is for the money that has been raised for people in need. I, for one, am looking forward to hopefully many more Jake & Bake Lives. They have all been a true delight to watch and I find myself smiling from start to finish. Be sure to check out Jake’s Twitter and Instagram for times of the special Mother’s Day edition of the show on Sunday. Recipes are available on Jake’s Instagram as well.
