Paramount+ has announced that the fifth season of “Star Trek: Discovery” will be its last, concluding one of its longest-running original dramas. The final season is set to air in early 2024, with events in key markets around the world leading up to the series’ finale. “Discovery” has become one of the most popular shows on Paramount+ and it has a loyal fanbase due to its compelling storytelling, diverse cast of characters, and its exploration of classic themes of the Star Trek franchise, such as unity, diversity, and humanity’s place in the universe. Since 2017 viewers have followed the adventures of the USS Discovery and its crew, led by Commander Michael Burnham, played by Sonequa Martin-Green.

The show has been praised for its innovative storytelling, which has seen the Discovery and its crew travel to different universes, time periods, and even dimensions. The series has also introduced new characters, such as Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), a scientist who uses an experimental spore drive to navigate the universe, and Adira Tal (Blu Del Barrio), a non-binary character who becomes an important member of the Discovery crew. The series tackled a range of complex themes, including the ethics of time travel, the nature of identity, and the dangers of unchecked power. It has also been notable for its diverse cast, with characters of different races, genders, and sexual orientations playing prominent roles.

As the series heads into its final season set to premiere in early 2024, we will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well … dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.

According to Executive Producers and co-Showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise, As lifelong fans of “Star Trek,” it has been an immense honor and privilege to help bring “Star Trek: Discovery” to the world. If just one person sees themselves, or the possibilities for their future, in a new way because of “Discovery,” then we think we’d have made Gene Roddenberry very proud.

Of course, there would be no DISCOVERY without Sonequa Martin-Green and the extraordinary team of artists, both in front of and behind the camera, who have brought this show to life. Their passion and determination to make every episode special has been deeply inspiring; so too has their love and support for one another and their genuine love for ‘Star Trek.’ DISCOVERY has truly become a family over the years – and we couldn’t be more grateful to be part of it.
