Paramount+ has just announced a first look and official title for what will no doubt be their next big hit. This highly anticipated original new series is called “Special Ops: Lioness,” and Taylor Sheridan is at the helm. Fans are already buzzing with excitement. Created by Sheridan, this exciting new series stars Zoe Saldaña as the series lead and executive producer, alongside Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman, Laysla De Oliveira, Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, “1883’s LaMonica Garrett, and Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman.
The show is based on a real-life program and follows Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing, and leading her female undercover operatives.
With Sheridan at the helm, viewers can expect the same level of intense, gripping storytelling that he brought to previous hits like “Yellowstone,” “Mayor of Kingstown,” “1883,” “1923,” and “Tulsa King.” It boasts such a star-studded cast and no doubt Paramount+ is counting on a hit.
Saldaña, who is both starring in and executive producing the show, told Vanity Fair that Sheridan sent her a pilot he wanted me to read, and if I responded well to it, he really wanted to continue writing this character around me. When you get a call from someone like Taylor Sheridan…. You work really hard, expecting those calls. And when you get those calls, you don’t believe them. I’m known for being the queen of sabotaging myself.
Also featured in the cast are James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, Hannah Love Lanier, and Emmy Award nominee Michael Kelly. “Special Ops: Lioness” looks like it’s shaping up to be one of the most exciting new shows of the year. With its talented cast, compelling storyline, and super-talented creator, it will surely be a hit with audiences of all kinds. We can’t wait to see what this series has in store.
